We’ve all heard the saying “the grass is greener where you water it” and it’s favorite alter-ego “the grass is greener on the other side”. So which is it? Is the grass greener on the other side or is it green wherever you water it most?
Well this seems like a pretty simple answer at face value doesn’t it? Surely it’s greener wherever you water it most?. Right?! Right?!
What do you think? Is it here if I water and water and water it, or over there, or maybe both? Oh my head….
So let’s talk about it. Logically we can say that if we were to have a patch of grass (life really, but lets call it grass just for fun) and we’re unhappy with our little patch of grass then surely the beautiful lawn of our neighbors must be ideaL. NO?! Well what if we spend countless hours working to water our own lawn, surely that will make it more appealing. Right? Here comes the tricky part.
What if neither and both are true?
The harsh reality of life is that some people WILL have a better grass patch than you, some may have simply been dealt a better patch from the beginning, and some will have what “looks” like a better grass patch, but underneath the roots are all rotted and they paid a service to make it “look pretty”. For the sake of this blog, let’s call the great service those social media filters LOL. I admit it, I’ve used them myself, and they sure do make things ”look pretty”.
So now what?!
So now we ACKNOWLEDGE. We acknowledge that some people truly DID have a head start, they simply do have a better patch than us out of the gate, and some are just BS’ing their way through life. So the truth is both. Yes, on occasion, the grass is greener ”over there”, but the reality is this, if you don’t water the grass you already have, it will never mimic the “grass over there”.
I’ve always felt it was a bit toxic to tell someone “no, no it’s not greener over there, you just need to water your own grass” when in reality, if we acknowledge what truly is while also acknowledging we have the power to change our own outcome at any time, isn’t that a much lusher position to place our bottom on a warm sunny day? I do believe it is…
